EMOTE

 

Emote is a platform that collects and analyzes socio-emotional learning data to deliver insights to the right person at the right time -- empowering schools to deliver support to 100% of students with existing staff.  

During the fellowship, teachers at Banneker Elementary and Guadalupe Centers High School chose Emote in order to help them proactively deal with students’ social-emotional needs.

These teachers along with the entrepreneurs at Emote codesigned a research study to evaluate Emote’s impact on

  • The amount and severity of interventions needed,

  • Teachers’ awareness of their students’ SEL needs, and

  • The effect of Emote on teachers’ level of stress.

FLOOP

Floop is a web  and mobile platform that helps teachers give “meaningful feedback faster” and teaches students to use feedback to learn.

Van Horn High School chose Floop in order to help them students better learn from their mistakes and give them more agency in the learning process.

Adam Surrey (Van Horn English Teacher), along with the Melanie Kong of Floop codesigned a research study to:

  • Evaluate the impact of Floop on students’ academic performance,

  • Understand the impact of Floop on students’ perception of agency in their own learning

FLYER CONNECT

Flyer Connect is parent engagement platform that offers communication, translation, academic, and social resources to families and educators.

In Fall of 2019, San Juan BOCES partnered with LEANLAB Education, Flyer Connect, and Colorado Education Initiative in order to pilot the Flyer Connect app as a communication tool in Early Childhood Education.

There were two primary goals for engaging in short inquiry cycles within this partnership:

  • Testing out strategies with the app for increasing parent communication

  • Testing out a new context Flyer Connect implementation

INDIGO

Indigo is a set of tools that empowers students and educators “through self-awareness, empathy, and freedom.” The primary tool used to meet these goals is the Indigo Assessment, which helps students and educators gain insights on their behaviors, motivators, social emotional (SEL) perceptions, and career-ready skills

Blue Valley CAPS chose Indigo in order to help students better deal with the anxiety and uncertainty they feel when choosing a career in a high-pressure school system.

Tammy Frye (Blue Valley Teacher Education Instructor) along with Sueann Casey at Indigo codesigned a research study to evaluate VENTURE’s impact on:

  • Students’ career clarity and

  • Students’ reported social-emotional health

INTERVENE

Intervene is a comprehensive intervention system that assesses students, analyzes data, and tutors students online to provide accessible, high impact tutoring to schools and districts.

KIPP Endeavor Academy and Operation Breakthrough chose Intervene in order to help their students improve their math knowledge.

Dajona Graves at Operation Breakthrgouh and Justin Alt at KIPP worked with Mehul Shah at Intervene to codesign a research study to

  • Evaluate Intervene’s impact on math performance and social-emotional learning

MAKERS EMPIRE

Makers Empire  helps K-8 educators teach design thinking, STEM and 21st-century learning skills through 3D printing and 3D design.

Academy for Integrated Arts (AFIA) and Operation Breakthrough chose Makers Empire in order to teach students STEM skills using real-world learning.

Andrea Davis (AFIA) and Jadwin Rowles (Operation Breakthrough) worked with the Jon Soong at Makers Empire to codesign a research study that evaluates Makers Empire’s impact on students’

  • Spatial reasoning skills and oral language development.

SCHOOL DEETS

School Deets is an app that schools use to communicate with parents and families.

Excelsior Springs High School (ESHS) chose School Deets in order to increase parent engagement and improve the overall culture of family involvement.

Tony Harman (ESHS) worked with Heather Wilson at School Deets to codesign a research study to assess the impact of School Deets on

  • Parent awareness of what their child was doing in school and of various events happening, as well as

  • Parent engagement.

SPEAK AGENT

Speak Agent is a digital platform that empowers diverse learners of all ages to master challenging academic language. It is designed specifically for students that are behind in reading proficiency.

KIPP Endeavor Academy chose Speak Agent in order to improve middle-school reading proficiency for students that are behind.

Skylar Hurst (KIPP) worked with Dan LaFountain (Speak Agent) to codesign a research study to evaluate the efficacy of Speak Agent on two student outcomes:

  • reading performance and

  • social-emotional learning
