Celebrating Excellence: Codesign and ESSA Badge Recipients

Leanlab Education recognizes companies that demonstrate commitment to research-based practices and user-centered design through our badge programs. This spring and summer, we awarded badges to companies that have shown dedication to evidence-based development and meaningful codesign engagement.

Codesign Product Badge

The Codesign Product Badge is earned by companies that complete research studies with Leanlab Education and make significant product modifications based on educator and student feedback. This badge recognizes a company's ongoing commitment to codesign principles.

The following companies earned their Codesign Product Badge this semester:

  • Edlight - EdLight is an AI math co-teacher that helps teachers capture, review, and give feedback on student work to promote data-informed, equitable instruction in math.

  • McGraw Hill Education - McGraw Hill Education is a leading educational publisher of textbooks, digital learning tools, and adaptive technology across K12 and higher education.

  • thinkLaw - thinkLaw offers a curriculum library that teaches critical thinking and analytical skills through interactive case studies.

  • Subject - Subject is a learning platform designed to deliver cinematic standards-aligned education to students everywhere.

  • Kyron Learning - Kyron Learning provides the tools and support to bring online learning to life with conversations, scenario-based tasks, interactivity, and coaching for all learners.

  • Along - Along is a communication platform that connects educators, students, and families to support student success.

ESSA Tier IV Building Evidence Badge

The ESSA Tier IV Building Evidence Badge recognizes edtech companies that have met Tier IV of the ESSA tiers of evidence. Companies earn this badge by completing a logic model or theory of change based on rigorous research and having a plan or research underway to study their tool's effects.

This semester's ESSA Tier IV badge recipients include:

  • Learning Spark/DIDIM - DIDIM is a platform focused on data-driven instructional improvement and student learning analytics.

  • Amplify - Amplify creates K12 core and supplemental curriculum, assessment, and intervention programs for today’s students.

  • MagicSchool AI - MagicSchool AI is a platform providing 80+ tools for teachers to reduce burnout and enhance classroom efficiency.

  • Kyron Learning - Kyron Learning provides the tools and support to bring online learning to life with conversations, scenario-based tasks, interactivity, and coaching for all learners.

NewSchools ESSA IV Partnership

Leanlab partnered with NewSchools this spring to provide research coaching and logic model support to their portfolio companies. This collaboration highlights our shared commitment to codesign and evidence-based product development. Through this partnership, 20 companies earned their ESSA Tier IV badges:

  • 10story - 10story aims to address K-12 math education problems by providing hands-on project-based learning experiences that build teamwork and academic skills.

  • AI-Learners - AI-Learners helps students of all abilities improve learning outcomes in early math, literacy, and social skills through personalized and accessible AI-powered educational games and analytics.

  • Barbershop Books (Reading So Lit) - Reading So Lit is a strengths-based intervention for early readers that encourages kids to develop a reading identity and become more confident and curious learners.

  • Bilingual Generation - Bilingual Generation offers culturally-affirming programs, curricula, and resources to celebrate multilingualism and encourage kids with bilingualism to maintain meaningful connections with their heritage languages.

  • Capti - Capti is a literacy platform that uses AI-driven text-to-speech technology and personalized learning tools—including AI-driven assessments and recommendations—to make reading more accessible.

  • Celebrate Dyslexia - Celebrate Dyslexia raises awareness, provides education, and promotes empowerment for individuals with dyslexia through community events, advocacy, and innovative learning initiatives.

  • Cultivating Literacy - Cultivating Literacy partners with immigrant and multilingual families to strengthen early literacy skills by fostering culturally responsive, identity-affirming learning experiences at home and in schools.

  • Diverse Learners Cooperative - Diverse Learners Cooperative partners with schools to improve outcomes for students with disabilities through inclusive educator training and systems-level support.

  • EdLight  - EdLight is an AI math co-teacher that helps teachers capture, review, and give feedback on student work to promote data-informed, equitable instruction in math.

  • Gladeo - Gladeo helps educators and organizations prepare learners for careers in the age of AI.

  • Intersection Collective - Intersection Collective offers professional development for leaders and parents to promote equity and inclusion in education and the workforce.

  • Joy Education Foundation - Joy Education provides affordable literacy support in the form of on-demand digital curriculum and online tutoring to low-income communities.

  • OKO - OKO is an AI-powered small group collaborative learning tool that allows students to engage in meaningful discussions and support each other’s learning.

  • Pathlitics - Pathlitics is a platform to support neurodivergent students, particularly those with learning differences or ADHD, in finding the best post-high school opportunities and programs, including four-year colleges, and providing them with essential information.

  • PeerTeach - PeerTeach leverages technology to enable students to work on math problems together through peer-to-peer coaching. PeerTeach is integrating a component that will use AI to analyze student conversations and provide feedback to improve student interactions.

  • Project Read AI - Project Read AI aims to improve student reading outcomes through an AI-powered literacy platform with both teacher and student resources.

  • Strived.io - Strived.io utilizes AI to provide insight-driven recommendations for supporting the whole child using key data sources such as attendance, assessments, and grades.

  • Talkido - Talkido is a screen-free platform that uses interactive learning to enhance social and language skills and adapts to each child’s unique needs.

  • The Ability Challenge - The Ability Challenge partners with schools and districts to support them in building inclusive communities and systems that meet the needs of all students, including students with disabilities.

  • The ASSISTments Foundation - ASSISTments offers data-driven formative math assessment for educators and learners, as well as support and training for schools and districts and intervention support for high-impact tutoring programs.

These badges signify that companies have taken concrete steps to ground their work in research and user feedback. By earning codesign and ESSA badges, these organizations demonstrate their commitment to creating high-quality education solutions that serve students and educators effectively. Each company engaging in codesign research contributes to a more rigorous and effective education ecosystem.
